MPD Capt. Joy Medeiros graduates from FBI National Academy

Maui Police Department Capt. Joy Medeiros was one of 254 law enforcement officers who graduated from the FBI National Academy, marking the completion of the 291st session on Sept. 12, 2024.

The class included men and women from 47 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, 26 countries, seven military organizations, and seven federal civilian organizations.

Internationally recognized for its academic excellence, the FBI National Academy is a 10-week program focusing on advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training. To qualify for attendance, participants must demonstrate a proven track record of professionalism within their agencies. On average, graduates have 21 years of law enforcement experience and typically return to serve in executive-level positions within their departments.

FBI Director Christopher Wray delivered remarks at the ceremony, while class spokesperson Luther Dupree III, from the Oakland Housing Authority Police Department in California, represented the graduates.

Medeiros has been with the Maui Police Department since 2005 and oversees the Quality Assurance Section.  Department officials say the program completion reflects Medeiros’ dedication to enhancing her leadership skills and ongoing commitment to serving the Maui community.
