Minor Quake Shakes Kawaihae on Hawaii Island

The Hawaii Volcanoes Observatory reported a preliminary magnitude 3.7 earthquake at 6:40 p.m. (HST) on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 .

The quake was centered about 12 miles west of Kawaihae, 16 miles west north west of Waikoloa, 19 miles south west of Hawi, and 27 miles north of Kailua.

The tremor was measured at a depth of about six miles.

There are no warnings, watches or advisories in effect.
