WET WEATHER CAUSES TRAVEL DELAYS ON HANA HIGHWAY
ROAD PASSABLE, BUT MOTORISTS ADVISED TO DRIVE WITH CAUTION

Hana Highway, Highway 360 in the area near MP3 is clear. A tree had fallen at the location earlier this morning. State crews continue their work to clean a mudslide near MP9, but advise that the road is now passable. MP 26 has low hanging wires but vehicles able to pass in that area as well. Earlier this morning crews completed work to clear mud and debris from a large landslide near MP21 in the vicinity of Pua’a Ka’a Wayside Park.
WET WEATHER CAUSES TRAVEL DELAYS ON HANA HIGHWAY

There are several advisories in effect for the Hana Highway, Highway 360. While the large landslide at mile post 21 was cleared shortly before 9 a.m., there are a number of other problem areas. At Mile post 3, Maui Police reported a tree down…at mile post 9, there were mudslides affecting both lanes of travel, and at mile post 26, there are low hanging wires, but vehicles are being allowed to pass at that location. Motorists are advised to drive with caution and avoid the area if possible.
SECTION OF HANA HIGHWAY CLOSED DUE TO LARGE MUDSLIDE
Crews continue work this morning to clear a mudslide on the Hana Highway (Hwy. 360).
The incident occurred around 10:30 pm last night at mile marker 21, approximately two miles on the Keanae side of the Pua’a Ka’a State Wayside Park. Â No injuries were reported. Â Hana Highway was closed immediately and remains closed today until State and County road crews complete work with heavy equipment to clear debris and mud that was covering both lanes of travel.
Following an assessment by the Maui Fire Department last night, work by State and County personnel was deemed unsafe to conduct at night and in wet weather conditions. Crews had planned to return to the site at first light to continue their mud removal efforts.

Motorists planning to travel into or out of Hana while work is in progress, cannot get through via the Hana Highway and should hold off on travel in the area until further notice.
A similar mudslide that occurred a month ago on March 21 took place in the same area and resulted in a road closure of about 5 hours.
