Kona storm traffic impacts: Downed trees, flooding, road erosion result in multiple Maui road closures

Kona storm – East Maui. (3.13.26) PC: County of Maui.

(3:45 p.m., March 13, 2026) Lower Honoapiʻilani Road, between 4770 Lower Honoapiʻilani Road and Puamana Place will be closed until further notice. The closure is due to road erosion occurring from the heavy rains.

(3:17 p.m., March 13, 2026) A section of South Kīhei Road is closed in both directions, between North Kīhei Road and Uwapo Road until further notice. The closure is due to flooding in this area.  

(1:06 p.m, March 13, 2026) Olinda Road is currently closed at Hanamu Road., and all traffic is being diverted onto Hanamu Drive at this time until further notice. Closure is due to multiple trees down in the area.

ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW AD

(1:02 p.m., March 13, 2026) Piʻilani Highway (31), is closed in the area of Nuʻu Landing, around Mile 30 until further notice. This is due to the river flooding.

(12:20 p.m, March 13, 2026) Lower Kula Road is closed between the addresses 5321 and 5360 due to flooding.

(12:20 p.m., March 13, 2026) Trees are down on Hāna Highway at mile markers 23, 25, and 29. The road is passable at mile marker 23. Road is blocked at mile marker 25 and Maui Police are at mile marker 29. A crew is responding.

ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW AD

(11:57 am., March 13, 2026) Haleakalā Crater Road is closed from Kekaulike Avenue due to multiple downed trees. There is closed to local traffic until further notice. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
