Pelim. Magnitude 5.0 Kilauea Earthquake, No Tsunami Threat

There is no tsunami expected following a preliminary 5.0 magnitude earthquake off the south flank of the Kilauea Volcano on Hawaii Island.
The quake occurred at 4:37 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2012.
Based on all available data, the authorities with the National Weather Service Pacific Tsunami Warning Center say a Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii.
Earlier estimates placed the epicenter of the quake 10 miles south of Fern Forest, 11 miles southeast of Volcano, 26 miles south of Hilo, and 222 miles southeast of Honolulu.
