Mayor announces Maui real property tax extension for parcels impacted by TS Lala

Mayor Richard Bissen announced that property owners negatively impacted by Tropical Storm Lala may apply for a one-time extension of the Fiscal Year 2026-27 real property tax payment deadline through Sept. 20, 2026.
For those not impacted, the real property tax payment deadline is Aug. 20, 2026.
“Our people are our greatest asset, and when a tropical storm impacts our homes, properties and livelihoods, we need to make sure our government is there to help our community recover,” Mayor Richard Bissen said. “Providing this one-time extension gives property owners who were negatively impacted by Tropical Storm Lala some additional breathing room during a difficult time. We encourage those who have been affected to take advantage of this opportunity and submit their application so we can help ease the financial burden as they focus on getting back on their feet.”
The deferral will only be granted to property owners negatively impacted by Tropical Storm Lala. To be approved, property owners need to submit a County of Maui Department of Finance Treasury Tax Division application that describes impacts and provides location and other details by Sept. 20, 2026. The department will defer payment, tax penalty and interest if approved.
Details of deferral application include:
- The deferral only applies to Fiscal Year 2026-27 taxes due on Aug. 20, 2026.
- Applications must be filed with the Treasury Division by Sept. 20, 2026.
- All approved deferrals for Fiscal Year 2026-27 taxes due on Aug. 20, 2026, must be paid in full by Sept. 20, 2026, to avoid penalty and interest.
