MAUI AIDS FOUNDATION AWARDED $1.3 M FEDERAL GRANT

The Maui AIDS Foundation in Wailuku will receive a $1,381,163 supportive housing renewal grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The announcement was made today by Senate Appropriations Chairman Daniel K. Inouye and Senator Daniel K. Akaka.

The funding will allow the Maui AIDS Foundation to continue serving 60 households on an annual basis with tenant-based rental assistance; 10 households on annually with short-term housing assistance in efforts to prevent homelessness and support services such as case management, nutritional services and mental health counseling.

“Support services are essential in helping people affected with HIV/AIDS find and maintain housing,” said Chairman Inouye and Senator Akaka, “These resources will help improve the lives of those confronted with these challenges.”

The Maui AIDS Foundation partners with Malama Pono (Kauai AIDS Project) and the Hawaii Island HIV/AIDS Foundation.  Together they serve the neighbor islands of Maui, Lanai, Molokai, Hawaii and Kauai.
