Wailuku First Friday kicks off Festivals of Aloha

Festivals of Aloha kicks off at Wailuku First Friday guided by its 2026 theme, “Ea Mai Ke Kai Mai – Rise Up from the Sea,” in support of Gov. Josh Green’s declaration of 2026 as the “Year of Our Coastal Kuleana.” on Friday, Sept. 4, 2026, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the heart of Wailuku Town.

Merchant Moments

• Featured at Paradise Now Hawaiʻi, local artist Bailey Onaga, working under the alias B. Miyo, brings her bubbly perspective on nature to life through a vibrant series of paintings. Her newest exhibition, Inaka Kānaka, opens Friday, September 4, inviting viewers into a world of bold shapes, whimsical musings, and bright colors. Raised in Wailuku, Bailey found solace in nature and art as an introverted child and today draws upon those experiences to honor her inner keiki. While navigating questions of identity and kuleana as Kānaka ʻŌiwi, she has found purpose in creating hopeful visions of Hawaiʻi’s native species thriving—celebrating both the natural world and her evolving connection to place, culture, and self.

Parking & Road Closures

• Free parking available after 6 p.m. at the Wailuku Municipal Parking Garage
  (Access via Church Street between Vineyard and Main Streets)
• Market Street will close to vehicle traffic at 5:30 p.m.
• Vehicles remaining on Market Street after closure will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense

Wailuku First Friday continues its tradition as a vibrant, community-centered event where residents and visitors gather to support local businesses, enjoy live music, and experience the charm of Wailuku Town.
