Aloha Council invites adults to take on Maui Sportsman’s Challenge

Scouting America, Aloha Council is inviting outdoor enthusiasts ages 18 and older to grab three friends and take on the 2026 Sportsman’s Challenge, a two-day fundraiser Sept. 26-27 at Camp Maluhia featuring 10 outdoor skill competitions. Four-person teams will choose either Saturday or Sunday to compete in a full day of friendly competition while supporting local Scouting programs.

Participants will rotate through 10 challenge stations including shotgun, pistol and rifle shooting, archery, slingshot, darts, atlatl, tomahawk and knife throwing, and an airsoft shooting gallery. The day begins with a continental style breakfast and coffee followed by a safety briefing, and concludes with lunch and awards recognizing the top individual and team performances. No previous experience is required; safety instruction, equipment guidance, and challenge rules will be provided before competition begins.

“The Sportsman’s Challenge showcases many of the outdoor skills that have long been part of Scouting,” said Blake Parsons, CEO and Scout Executive of Scouting America, Aloha Council. “For adults who know Scouting only through a child or grandchild, it’s an opportunity to experience that side of the program while supporting local youth and the adventures that help them grow.”

Businesses, community organizations, Scouting supporters, friends and coworkers from all islands are encouraged to form teams and take on the competition together. Teams may register for either Saturday, Sept. 26, or Sunday, Sept. 27. Participation is limited to 24 four-person teams—12 teams each day—and preferred competition days will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Early registration is encouraged.

Proceeds from the Sportsman’s Challenge support Scouting America, Aloha Council’s camps, service projects and year-round youth programs that help build leadership, teamwork, responsibility and outdoor skills. The Aloha Council gratefully accepts donations for door prizes or silent auction items. Any outdoors-related businesses interested in supporting are welcome to set up a vendor tent at the event with a donation of merchandise or product valued at least $100 as an entry fee.
