Firefighters battle rubbish bin fires at Maui Eldorado

Maui firefighters responded to a fire burning at several rubbish and recycling bins at the Maui Eldorado in Kāʻanapali early Tuesday morning.  

The incident was reported at 5:05 a.m. on Sept. 1 at the resort, located at 2661 Kekaʻa Drive.

Firefighters arrived to find 5-7 rubbish and recycling bins and their enclosure on fire. Crews quickly brought the fire under control and prevented its spread to any nearby structures. 

The fire was brought under control at 5:35 a.m. and extinguished at 6:15 a.m. Fire officials say the incident resulted in $500 to $700 in damage to the bins and the surrounding enclosure.  

The cause of the fire is undetermined but remains under investigation.

Units responding to the scene included Engine 3, Ladder 3, Engine 11, a battalion chief, and a fire investigator.

No one was displaced, and no injuries were reported.
