2 people displaced by Haʻikū home fire, one man treated for burns

Two people were displaced and one person was injured following a residential fire on Friday night in Haʻikū. The incident was reported at 10:36 p.m. in the 1300 block of Kaupakalua Road.

Upon arrival, firefighter crews deployed hoses and entered the single-story, single-family home to extinguish a fire in one of the bedrooms. All occupants had safely evacuated prior to their arrival, and crews were able to confine the fire to the room of origin.

A 45-year-old male resident suffered burn injuries and was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

Fire officials confirmed the cause of the fire was accidental. The fire was brought under control at 11:02 p.m. and fully extinguished at 12:07 a.m. Total damages to the structure and contents are estimated at $150,000.

Responding units included Engine 5, Engine 13, Engine 10, Rescue 10, Hazmat 10, a battalion chief, and a fire investigator.
