Operating Engineers Local 3, a leading union representing skilled heavy equipment operators, mechanics, and construction workers across Hawai‘i and the Pacific, has endorsed Bobby Pahia for the Maui County Council Upcountry residency seat.

The endorsement reflects Pahia’s strong ties to working families and his commitment to resilient infrastructure, local jobs, and the trades that keep Maui Nui moving, according to the campaign announcement.

“Uncle Bobby is ready and willing to talk story and address the concerns of Maui Nui,” said Willy Greig, business representative of Operating Engineers Local 3.

“I’m honored to have the support of Operating Engineers Local 3,” Pahia said. “These are the people who build our roads, maintain our water systems, and keep our communities safe. Their endorsement is a reminder that this campaign is about people and making sure working families have a real voice at the County Council.”

This announcement marks an important milestone as the Operating Engineers, a leading voice among Hawai‘i’s trade unions, join Pahia’s coalition of endorsements. “Their support is a powerful addition, highlighting his ability to earn the trust of skilled-trade leaders and bring together groups that have historically been on different sides of political issues,” the campaign said.

Pahia has also been endorsed by ILWU Local 142, HGEA, UPW, UFCW 480, Sierra Club PAC, and 350 Hawai‘i.

Pahia’s campaign priorities focus on sustainable growth in alignment with nature and empowering the community’s collective voice to bring about generational change.

“That means working together to find common ground,” Pahia said. “Even if we see some issues differently, we share the same goals and passion to make Maui Nui a better place for our people to live and grow.”

Pahia is a kalo farmer, Waiohuli homesteader and business owner. He has hands-on experience in regenerative agriculture, water management and infrastructure maintenance. His campaign centers around sustainable growth that improves the quality of life in Maui Nui.

Pahia faces Jon Yokouchi in the November General Election. Pahia and Yokouchi were the top two vote-getters in the Primary Election.
