South Maui town hall set for Sept. 30

Maui County Council Member Tom Cook will host a South Maui town hall on storm recovery, road projects and other county issues at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Malcolm Center in Lipoa, formerly known as the Maui Research & Technology Park.

Cook, who holds the council’s South Maui residency seat, hosts quarterly town halls for South Maui residents.

Cook said topics will include recovery efforts after Hurricane Lowell and the Kona Low storms in March, flood mitigation, updates on the North-South Collector Road and the use of R-1 recycled wastewater.

“We know people are busy with day-to-day responsibilities, but these townhalls are ideal for anyone wanting face-to-face interaction with local government,” Cook said.

The town hall comes as the Council’s Disaster Recovery, International Affairs and Planning Committee begins work on Bill 108 (2026), which would adopt the South Maui Community Plan. The 20-year growth and land-use framework for the Kīhei-Makena region sets goals, policies and actions to address community challenges. If adopted, it would be the first comprehensive update to the plan since 1998.
