Haleakalā National Park announces new exhibits in Summit Visitor Center

Haleakalā National Park welcomes residents and visitors to explore new exhibits in both Hawaiian and English at the Haleakalā Visitor Center, located in the Summit district at 9,740 foot elevation.

“The exhibits in ʻŌlelo Hawai‘i and English share the story of Haleakalā and are a first for National Park sites in the region,” said Superintendent Natalie Gates. “We could not have done this without our park partners, Haleakalā Conservancy and Hawai’i Pacific Parks Association.”

An oli of gratitude and celebration was performed prior to opening the visitor center to the public. National Park Service worked closely with kūpuna, subject matter experts in ʻŌlelo Hawai‘i, exhibit design, anthropology and cultural relevance to create the new informational exhibits.
