Maui County is recruiting volunteers for 77 seats for more than 30 boards and commissions, including the Maui Planning Commission, Police Commission, Fire and Public Safety Commission, Liquor Control Commission, Salary Commission, Urban Design Review Board and others.

Responsibilities include hearing public testimony, reviewing policies and standards and making recommendations. Positions are appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the Maui County Council. Position terms range from three to five years.

“Our community’s future is shaped by the voices, ideas and experiences of our residents,” said Mayor Richard Bissen. “Our volunteer boards and commissions members help guide the decisions that affect lives, strengthen government, and support vital County services. As a member, your voice matters—your experience matters. We have a critical need for boards and commissions volunteers whose insights and experiences will shape the County of Maui for generations to come.”

The deadline to submit applications for the next term is Nov. 11. Applications are accepted year-round to fill vacancies. To view the current list of vacancies, descriptions of the boards and commissions, and to apply online, visit www.mauicounty.gov/boards.

Paper applications are available at the Maui County Business Resource Center, located in the Kahului Service Center, 110 ‘Ala ‘ihi St., Suite 209, Kahului, and at the Kalana O Maui Building, 200 S. High St., Wailuku (information desk in the lobby).
