Roberto Omar Morales Andrade, 49, of Lahaina was sentenced today to consecutive prison terms totaling 60 years for multiple counts of sexual assault of a child.

On July 16, 2026, following a two-week trial, a 2nd Circuit Court jury found Morales Andrade guilty of eight counts of sexual assault in the first degree and eight counts of sexual assault in the third degree. The jury deliberated for less than two hours before returning a unanimous guilty verdict on all counts.

At trial, the jury heard evidence that the defendant, who was in a relationship with a relative of the victim and lived in the same household as the victim, used his position of trust and access to isolate and repeatedly sexually abuse the child over a span of nearly four years, beginning in 2014 when she was 9 years old and continuing until she was 13, according to a news release. “He took advantage of periods when the child was home alone to carry out the abuse, telling her not to tell her mother and that no one would believe her if she disclosed it,” according to the release.

A family member eventually discovered the ongoing abuse through a text message the child sent to her then-boyfriend, which led to a report to law enforcement and the charges in this case. The abuse began with acts of manipulation before escalating over time to increasingly severe sexual contact, according to a County of Maui news release.

In the State’s sentencing memorandum asking the Court to impose consecutive terms, Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Frank Loyd Jr. said the defendant’s offenses “are extremely serious in nature.”

“The facts in this case are horrendous and led to the loss of innocence of a young girl,” Loyd said in the memorandum. “The Defendant took advantage of his position as an adult to manipulate a young, vulnerable victim into believing that this routine of sexual abuse was normal and that her mother wouldn’t believe her if she said anything.”

County of Maui Prosecuting Attorney Andrew H. Martin acknowledged the courage and strength of the victim for coming forward and testifying against the defendant.

“This administration is committed to pursuing justice for survivors of child sexual assault and holding offenders accountable through prosecution under the law,” he said. “Every child deserves to be safe, protected and heard.”

Second Circuit Judge Kirsten M. Hamman, who presided over the trial, imposed the sentence.
