Kaunoa Senior Services, a division of the County of Maui Department of Human Concerns, is looking for holiday helpers to make wishes come true for hundreds of Maui, Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi kūpuna.

The annual Giving Tree from Nov. 5 to Nov. 20 will feature 900 holiday wishes from Kaunoa’s kūpuna. Community members are encouraged to choose a wish and help make this time of year a little brighter for Maui Nui seniors.

“Beyond providing a gift, the Giving Tree reminds our kūpuna that they are valued members of our community,” County of Maui Department of Human Concerns Director Margaret “Maggie” Willis said. “For older adults who may have limited resources or family support, knowing someone is thinking of them can make a meaningful difference during the holidays. Mahalo to the many participants and volunteers – this initiative is not possible without your outpouring of aloha.”

How to participate:

  • From Nov. 5 through Nov. 20, pick a wish tag off the Giving Tree any time between 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday at Kaunoa Senior Center, 401 Alakapa Place, Pāʻia.
  • Each tag lists a senior’s desired gift, based on needs and ideas gathered by staff and families.
  • Purchase the requested gift, and return it unwrapped by Nov. 30.
  • Kaunoa staff and volunteers wrap each gift, and staff personally deliver them before Christmas.

This year, Kaunoa Senior Services is expanding the Giving Tree to include all seniors in Congregate Nutrition, Meals on Wheels and Assisted Transportation programs on Maui, Lānaʻi and Molokaʻi, totaling approximately 900 seniors.

The annual Giving Tree is coordinated by Kaunoa Senior Services’ Retired & Senior Volunteer Program.

Kaunoa Senior Services provides a range of services, activities and programs for seniors across Maui Nui. For more information, visit https://www.mauicounty.gov/254/Kaunoa-Senior-Services.
