Blessing of Maui Bus electric chargers held at Kahului Transit Center

The County of Maui Department of Transportation held a blessing ceremony today commemorating the official unveiling of three new electric bus charging stations. The ceremonies began at the War Memorial Stadium parking lot where guests boarded an electric Maui Bus, which then traveled to the Kahului Transit Center for the formal blessing.
This project marks a milestone in Maui County’s transition toward sustainable, clean-energy public transit. Funded in partnership with federal, state and local entities, the new charging facilities represent a collaborative effort to modernize municipal operations, eliminate tailpipe emissions, enhance local air quality and deliver quieter, cleaner commutes across the island.

“Central to this achievement is a partnership through Hawaiian Electric’s ‘Charge Up’ eBus pilot program,” Transportation Director Marc Takamori said. “Hawaiian Electric funded and coordinated the essential electrical service equipment and utility upgrades required to make this heavy-duty charging site possible. By leveraging federal grant funds alongside local utility partnerships, the County has made every effort to ensure maximum public benefit and operational efficiency.”
