Baldwin HS Hosts Recycling Earth Day Event, Feb. 25

An annual Aloha ‘Aina Earth Day recycling event will be held on Maui this Saturday, February 25, 2012.

The event, hosted by Baldwin High School and Schnitzer Steel, was created in 2004 to reduce waste, promote recycling and raise funds for schools and community organizations.

The event will be run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Baldwin High School, located at 1660 Kaahumanu Avenue.

Items that will be accepted include:

• scrap metal
• bicycles
• appliances
• beverage containers
• cooking oil
• cellular phones
• printer cartridges
• laptop computers
• batteries (all kinds)
• usable clothing
• household items
• plastic bags
• old golf balls
• books, newspaper, cardboard, telephone books, and magazines
• used eye-glasses and hearing aids
• paint

There will be a service for shredding confidential documents, with a limit of two banker boxes.  Shredding will take place between 8 and 11 a.m.

Free roll-off bin service will be offered for scraped metal.  For information on this service, call 808-306-1876.

The Aloha ‘Aina Earth Day event will also help to feed Hawaii’s hungry.  Those who come to drop off recyclables, are also asked to bring canned goods in appreciation for the free recycling service.

All food donations will be given to the Hawaii Food Bank.
