KIPAHULU CAMPGROUND CLOSED FOR CONSTRUCTION

The Kipahulu Campground in Haleakala National Park is closed due to construction.  The eight-week closure will allow crews time to complete a multi-million dollar parking lot, restroom, and campground rehabilitation project.

Mark Rentz, the chief of facilities management at the park said the project is a reflection of the public’s entrance fees at work.  The construction affects the coastal Kipahulu campground only.

There are still camping sites available in the summit area of the park and in the back country.  Hosmer’s Grove at 7000 ft., is a drive up camping area free for three days with an entrance permit.  There is back-country hike-in tent camping at Holua, and Paliku Campgrounds with a permit from the visitor center. Camping is free with valid entrance permit.  Three cabins are available in the back-country for $75 per night for parties of no more than 12 people.
