Maui Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce hosts OHA trustees

Maui Office of Hawaiian Affairs Trustee Hulu Lindsey, and new OHA CEO Kamana’opono Crabbe, Ph.D. will be the featured guests at an upcoming meeting of the Maui Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce.

Members will be updated on the proposed Kaka’ako land settlement , as well as what the agency hopes to accomplish by the end of the year.

The meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10 at the Maui Tropical Plantation and is open to the public. Cost is $20. reservations are requested by April 6th to Kai Pelayo at 874-2426.

The event begins with networking at 5:30 p.m., followed by a buffet dinner and meeting at 6 p.m.

Hulu Lindsey was appointed by Governor Neil Abercrombie to the Maui Trustee post in January to fill the vacancy created by former MNHCC President, Judge Boyd Mossman.

Lindsey owns Lindsey Realty, and previously worked as Properties Manager for Maui Land & Pineapple Inc.  She also served in the Maui County Land Use and Codes Division, Department of Hawaiian Homelands, and the administration of Governor John A. Burns.

Aside from her business, Lindsey is also an accomplished performer and operates Kahulu Productions, an entertainment company.

Fellow guest speaker, Dr. Kamana’opono Crabbe, is a licensed Clinical Psychologist who joined OHA as Research Director.

Now at the the helm of OHA, Crabbe said he plans to “engage policymakers in the agency’s work, build community support, and use OHA’s ties to other organizations to improve educational achievement, income levels, health standards and housing stability within the Native Hawaiian community.”

Crabbe’s core strategy at OHA is to foster success by creating, preserving and perpetuating mutually beneficial relationships.

Both Lindsey and Crabbe are the latest speakers to be scheduled at monthly meetings for the Maui Native Hawaiian Chamber.

The organization hosts speakers and events that aid local businesspersons to keep their enterprises healthy, and to promote the use of Hawaiian values in business.

Its membership includes business owners who are not ethnically Hawaiian, but who share Hawaiian values and MNHCC’s mission, “to promote and sustain Hawaiian culture and enhance the socio-economic status of Native Hawaiians in business and as individuals.”

The Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce Business Fest, each September at The Grand Wailea, offers free workshops and networking with the top industrial, scientific, commercial and political leaders in Hawaii, all with a focus on preserving and promoting Hawaiian culture and values in today’s world.
