SURF REPORT FOR JULY 22, 2009
The National Weather Service in has continued a High Surf Advisory for the South Facing Shores of Molokai, Lanai, Maui and Kahoolawe, in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday.
A High Surf Advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach erosion. Surf is expected to be in the 6 to 9 foot range today and tomorrow.
A high tide of approximately 3.2 feet is expected between 4:11 p.m. and 4:51 p.m. this afternoon.
As a precaution, beachgoers are urged to stay out of the water and well away from the shore break, due to the hazardous wave action and strong rip currents.
A Small Craft Advisory is also in effect for the following areas:Â Maalaea Bay, Pailolo Channel, Alenuihaha Channel, Big Island Leeward Waters, and Big Island Southeast Waters.
The advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Wednesday. A small craft advisory means that wind speeds of 25 to 33 knots and/or seas 10 feet or greater are expected to produce conditions hazardous to small craft. Inexperienced Mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid navigating in these conditions.
