According to the Coast Guard, no one had been reported to be in distress.

The kayak contained a milk crate, a computer bag with old food, a bicycle helmet, and a plastic fishing float, authorities said.

An urgent marine information broadcast was issued to see if any mariners in the area could identify the kayak.
