Flood Advisory Issued for Maui

Update: Flood advisory has been cancelled.

A flood advisory has been issued for Maui until 6 p.m., Wednesday, August 22, 2012.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service say radar at around 3 p.m. showed an area of heavy rain near Ulupalakua, located about 15 miles south of Kahului.

The area of rain was nearly stationary over the southwest slopes of Haleakala.

Other locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Keokea.

The National Weather Service reminds motorists and pedestrians not to cross fast flowing or rising water in a vehicle or on foot, and to stay away from low-lying areas that are prone to flooding.
