Fugitive Sweep with Maui Focus Nets 66 Arrests

A three-day joint fugitive warrant sweep on the island of Maui netted a total of 66 arrests, according to officials with the US Marshals Service.

The mission effectively cleared more than 100 outstanding warrants with arrests made for various violent crimes, including drug offenses, sex offenses, robbery, and probation violations.

During the sweep, authorities arrested Alan M. Santos, 49, on a $250,000 felony warrant for one count of sexual assault in the first degree, and two counts of sexual assault in the third degree for alleged violations against a 14-year-old minor.  Santos was arrested in Kahului on September 5, and was being held at the Maui Community Correctional Center pending further court proceedings.

Authorities also arrested Bill Warner Manuel, Jr. of Wailuku for 10 outstanding bench warrants including probation violation, criminal contempt of court, and failure to appear, according to the US Marshals Service.  Officials said bail for all warrants netted $59,800.  Manuel was arrested without incident on September 4 at Waiale Road in Wailuku, and was being held at the Maui Community Correctional Center.

The sweep was conducted in a joint effort between the US Marshals Hawai’i Fugitive Task Force, the Hawai’i State Sheriffs, the Maui Police Department, Hawaii County Police Department, and Kaua’i County Police Department.
