A woman operating a motorcycle was seriously injured when she was rear-ended by another motorcycle in Olowalu this afternoon, authorities said.
Medic 4 from Lahaina arrived on scene at 2:51 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21, to find the woman on the roadway with lower extremity and shoulder injuries, said Maui County Paramedic Association spokesperson Ryan Joslin.
According to Joslin, the 49-year-old local female was not wearing a helmet, and was thrown forward off her bike onto the roadway upon impact.
At the time of the accident, she was stopped on the roadway in traffic, just south of the Olowalu General Store, when another motorcyclist traveling in the same lane failed to stop and rear-ended her, said Joslin.
The woman was transported in serious condition to an awaiting trauma team at Maui Memorial Medical Center while receiving pre-hospital trauma life support care by an attending paramedic, officials said.
Medic 4 was assisted by Lahaina firefighters and police units.
