ʻIao Valley Road OPEN Following Downed Electric Lines

ʻIao Valley Road is now open following a closure earlier this morning.  The road was closed for about four hours as crews worked to repair downed live electric lines that were knocked over by a large tree branch.  The road is now open in both directions.

ʻIao Valley Road was closed at around 4:30 a.m. on Monday, December 17, 2012, due to a down tree branch that took down live wires near the Tropical Gardens of Maui botanical gardens and nursery.

Crews from Maui Electric Company have been notified, and are responding to the scene.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area until the debris is cleared and wiring is secured.

There is no estimated time on when the road will reopen.
