20-25 Foot Surf Continues on North Shore
By Wendy Osher
A high surf warning is in effect for the north facing shores of Maui and Molokai until 6 p.m. today.
Forecasters with the National Weather Service say surf is expected to rise to 14 to 18 feet today, and build to 20 to 25 feet.
The NWS advises beach goers that a warning indicates that dangerous and battering waves will pound the affected shorelines, and will result in very dangerous swimming conditions and deadly rip currents.
As a precaution, beach goers are urged to stay out of the water and well away from the shore break.
A high tide of approximately 1.4 feet is expected between 1:17 p.m. and 2:35 p.m. today. The next high tide of approximately 2.8 feet is expected between 3:05 a.m. and 4:23 a.m. tomorrow morning.
