Olinda Power Outage Caused by Fallen Trees

Electrical service was restored to the Summit area of Haleakala at around 4:15 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2013.

A separate outage in the Olinda area continued to affect about 100 customers at last report, according to Maui Electric Company spokesperson Kau’i Awai-Dickson.

The outage was initially caused by a downed tree. Awai-Dickson said service was restored following the initial outage, but a downed tree took down service again.

Crews continue to service the area and work to restore power to those affected.

Maui Electric Company is reporting a power outage in the Haleakala Summit and Olinda areas was caused by fallen trees.

The notification was issued at 8:49 a.m. on Friday, January 4, 2013.

MECO officials say crews are working to restore electrical service as quickly and safely as possible.

The are is currently under a high wind warning with winds of between 40 and 45 mph, and localized gusts over 65 mph expected through Saturday night.
