Holy mackerel, time flies!
It’s February next week, and before you know it, we’ll all be dead.
Carpe diem now, kiddos, and get out there and have some fun. Here are some of the better offerings available to you this weekend.

If you missed the first Kihei Fourth Friday Town Party, then you are not certain whether there was a laser light show or if perhaps an incorporeal specter from an alternate universe revealed itself to the assembled crowd.
Perhaps resolve that conundrum tonight, when the second Kihei Friday takes place at Azeka Shopping Center Mauka.
Events start at 6 p.m. with Soul Kitchen performing at 6:10 p.m., a dance performance at 7:10 p.m., and Nuff Sedd playing at 7:50 p.m.
In addition, there will be a “youth zone” with family-friendly activities (including – brace yourselves – a keiki open mic!) and a large food court including some interesting-sounding options like Maui Samosas, Wow Wow Waffles, Maui Abalone, and Dibs on Ribs.
Best Place to Head Before and After the Kihei Friday Party
Stella Blues will be hosting events starting with Ahumanu playing at 4 p.m. this afternoon.
Reggae pop artist Mishka takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. and at 10 p.m. enjoy Oahu’s Kings of Spade and their rock/funk/blues stylings.
If there’s a cost, they neglected to mention it.

Just kidding on that last part. Pig’s blood is (probably) a real mess to clean up and the fine folks at the Maui Tropical Plantation will (probably) never forgive you.
That stated, on Saturday from 6 to 11 p.m. local education non-profit Jungle to Jungle is hosting the “Maui Motown Prom: An Evening of Soul” at the Maui Tropical Plantation in Wailuku.
It is a vintage-themed event featuring music from the 1960s and 1970s intended to raise funds for their 2012-2013 middle-school curriculum.
There will be two DJs playing Motown hits and themed live performances by Danielle Delauney, Shea Derrick, and others. Mana’o Radio’s Kathy Collins will be emceeing the event. Guests will be invited to participate in a couple’s dance competition and the evening will culminate in the crowning of a king and queen of the event, voted on by the other attendees. A photographer will offer couples’ photos at a booth in the corner of the space.
Admission is $25.
Best Opportunity to Catch This Show Before it’s Gone

MACC’s original hula drama, Kūlanihāko‘i: Living Waters, by Nā Kinimakalehua will be presenting a final curtain call.
The artistic team of master kumu hula Hōkūlani Holt, Keali‘i Reichel, Pali Ahue, Ulalia Woodside, Kauhilonohonua Padilla and Robert Ke‘ano Ka‘upu performed this show last year. The production draws from epic Hawaiian myths over 2000 years old.
With dance, chant, storytelling and dramatic interpretation, Kūlanihāko‘i: Living Waters tells the story of water and its relationship to land, ocean, and sky as told through the eyes of contemporary native Hawaiians.
The show is Saturday, Jan. 26th at 7:30 p.m. in the Castle Theater. Tickets are $12, $32, $40.
Best Hope of Impressing That Super Smart Girl
Yes, she already saw the Ke$ha CD in your truck and she knows your nickname is “The Muddler” but maybe it’s not too late! Put on a shirt with some buttons and take another run at it on Sunday as the Ebb & Flow Ensemble will be performing Arnold Schoenberg’s “String Quartet #2” in F sharp minor (1908) for soprano and string quartet.
The Ebb & Flow Ensemble is comprised of Honolulu-based Rachel Schutz, soprano; Ignace Jang and Helen Liu on violins; Steven Flanter, viola; Joanna Morrison-Pernela, cello and Robert Pollock, a Maui composer and pianist.
Musicians and artists from three islands will come together to perform Pollock’s “Contrast” for soprano and string quartet (2012) based on a poem by Robinson Jeffers. Big Island-based artist Tomas Belsky created a painting inspired by the music and poetry, Maui’s Peter Swanzy created a video featuring the painting that will also be shown, which is kind of trippy.
A silent auction for Belsky’s painting and a DVD of the performance will be held the day of the concert. Ticket-holders can enjoy a pre-concert discussion in Castle Theater at 4 p.m. and the actual event starts at 5 p.m. Tickets are $28.
