Two Maui Men Injured In Kuau Car Crash
Two Maui men were transported to the Hospital in critical condition following a two vehicle collision that forced the three-hour closure of the Hana Highway Monday afternoon.
During an initial assessment, injuries to both motorists were considered life-threatening, but both were later upgraded after being transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center. Maui police say both motorists were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.
The accident was reported at around 12:50 p.m. Monday, January 4, 2010 along the Hana Highway, just north of Kaiholo Place in Kuau. According to police reports, a 2004 Nissan operated by a 30 year old Haiku man, was traveling north on the Highway and executing a left turn into the driveway of Mama’s Fish House when the vehicle collided with a southbound 2001 VW, operated by a 43-year-old Huelo man. Both drivers were the sole occupants of the vehicles they were operating.
Hana Highway between Kaiholo Place and Holomua Road was closed to thru traffic during the investigation.
