GOP Maui to Honor Reagan and Lingle
By Wendy Osher
The Maui County Republican Party will host an event paying tribute to former President Ronald Reagan and honoring Governor Linda Lingle. The event is planned for February 11th from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the Marilyn Monroe House on the grounds of the Kamehameha Golf Club in Waikapu.
Event organizer John Henry, the chair of the GOP on Maui, said that in addition to honoring Reagan, the event is also a way to say thank you to Governor Lingle before she completes her term and the activity surrounding the 2010 campaign season gets into full gear.
The evening begins with a meet and greet event with Governor Lingle during the first hour, followed by entertainment from the band Na Lehua.
Organizers have prepared a tribute video featuring excerpts from Reagan’s 1964 speech at the RNC. There will also be an audio/video presentation paying tribute to Governor Lingle featuring footage from her service in the Maui County Council, as Mayor of Maui County, and her time as Governor for the state of Hawaii. The reel includes highlights from her inaugurations as well as other key events of her career.
Additional activities include comments from the Governor, a silent auction and a final hour of dancing.
Tickets are $75 with table reservations also available. The table that the Governor is sitting at will be auctioned off with a starting bid of $1500. Inquiries can be made to Henry at 250-9555. Proceeds from the event go to the Republican Party.
