The County’s Wheelchair Tennis program will expand into the East Maui Community of Hana thanks to a $1,410 grant from the US Tennis Association.

The funds are from the organization’s 2012 Grass Roots Wheelchair Tennis initiative, and expand upon a program already offered in Central Maui.

The Department of Parks and Recreation made the announcement today, saying the free program will be offered in the spring and summer of 2013, for participants of all abilities.

The County’s Wheelchair Tennis program uses all-sport adaptive “Quickie” wheelchairs provided by the Department of Parks and Recreation. County officials say professional tennis and wheelchair tennis instructors are also available as scheduling and time allow.
