Beware the Ides of March.
And, simultaneously, welcome to the Ides of March.
Those familiar with Roman history know this is a notoriously infamous day, rife with betrayal and bad happenings.
We don’t know what fate has in store, but presuming you aren’t assassinated before nightfall, you can look forward to celebrating your continued continuing with some of these hand-picked events happening this weekend.
Best Sounding Event If You’ve Got the Dough
Maui Academy of Performing Arts (MAPA) is holding “The Red Carpet Mystery,” a fundraising event.
An evening of dinner theater takes guests back to the Golden Age of Hollywood glamor and style.
The show’s murder-mystery premise is as follows, “Hollywood has just wrapped up its biggest awards show of the year and you’re invited to the hottest after-party in Tinsel Town. While schmoozing with Hollywood’s elite and enjoying fabulous cabaret performances, careers will be made and broken, scandals uncovered, secrets revealed and a murder will take place.
“With a VIP victim and every guest a suspect, put your sleuthing skills to the test and try to crack this red carpet caper. Or just sit back, relax and watch the intrigue unfold around you.”
The event takes place tonight from 6 to 10 p.m. at the King Kamehameha Golf Club.
Individual tickets are available for $150 or guests may purchase a table for 10 for $1,350.
Best Big Name on the Island
Bonnie Raitt is considered an institution in American Music. She’s won nine Grammy awards and Rolling Stone magazine named one of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time.
Tonight you can hear her blues-rock slide guitar stylings and infamous voice sing tunes from her 2012 album Slipstream in person. No doubt she will also pull out some familiar old favorites like “Something to Talk About” and “I Can’t Make You Love Me” when she plays the Pavilion Amphitheatre at the MACC.
The show starts tonight at 7 p.m. and tickets are $45, $55, $85 and $125 for premium seating
