Tree Branch Knocks out Power to 1,300 Haʻikū Customers

Officials at Maui Electric Company say a downed tree branch is to blame for a temporary power outage in Haʻikū on Friday afternoon, April 26.

According to MECO spokesperson Kauʻi Awai-Dickson, a tree branch came down on electrical lines on West Kuiaha Road, knocking out power to an estimated 1,300 customers in the area.

The outage was first reported at 2:38 p.m., and lasted about 26 minutes, with power restored at 3:04 p.m., officials said.

Areas affected by the brief outage included: areas of Haʻikū bounded by Kokomo Rd., Haʻikū Rd., Kauhikoa Rd., East & West Kuiaha Rd., Peʻahi Rd., Hāna Hwy., Kaupakalua Rd., Awalau Rd., Upper Ulumalu Rd. and laterals.
