Westin Kaanapali Receives State’s Highest Energy Efficiency Award

The Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas was among 14 honorees statewide that was honored with the state’s 2013 Hawaii Green Business Award for excellence in the area of energy efficiency

Accomplishments for the resort included ending 2012 with a 15% decrease in energy consumption (as compared to its 2008 baseline year) and water consumption was reduced by 15%.

Total waste was reduced by 79 tons in the past year and 327 tons of materials were diverted for recycling, which is a 20% reduction in their diversion rate.

Additionally, the resort managed to decrease their CO2 emissions by 22%.

“It’s encouraging to see local businesses and government agencies continue to take the lead in incorporating energy efficiency in their own practices,” said Governor Neil Abercrombie, who presented the award, in a statement to the media.

The awards ceremony was hosted by the hosted by the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, the Department of Health and The Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii to recognize achievements by Hawaii businesses and entities in the area of energy efficiency.
