Cleanup of Vessel Debris at Māla Continues

Cleanup of debris from three grounded vessels that broke up into pieces along a stretch of West Maui shoreline last Friday is nearing completion, officials said.

Marine salvage company Parker Marine, the firm hired by the state Department of Land and Natural Resources, continues the cleanup after the vessels broke free from their mooring at Māla Wharf and became grounded during usually high surf conditions.

Officials with the DLNR issued an update saying work continues today to remove three larger remaining pieces of debris from the 38-foot “Triple Play” trimaran, as well as small foam pieces that washed ashore.

Debris from two other sailboats, the 30-foot “Best Revenge” vessel and 30-foot “Caribou III” sailboat, has since been removed.
