A new “ultra luxury” hotel along with 200 acres designated for industrial development were approved by the Lanai Community Plan Advisory Committee, according to reports in the Pacific Business News today.
Committee member Alberta de Jetley told the Pacific Business News that the plan was approved on Wednesday night and included the third hotel that billionaire Larry Ellison, the owner of most of Lanai and CEO of Oracle Corporation, wanted to build on the old Club Lanai site.
According to another report in the SFGate, Ellison has plans to turn the former Club Lanai site into “an eco-friendly bungalow resort.” The article also mentioned that Ellison may even pave the dirt road from Lanai or “turn a partial road and ancient Hawaiian trail from Manele Harbor into a faster route from the ferry.”
The committee also apparently approved to set aside 100 acres for light industrial development and 100 acres for heavy industrial development, according to Jetley, who is also the editor and publisher of Lanai Today, a local newspaper.
