Art lovers and collectors are encouraged to stop by the Paint Maui Plein Air Invitational 2025 happening in West Maui this week and continuing through the weekend.

Akakūʻs salon features local Maui filmmaker Lucas Zarro and collaborators Alex Farnham and Arona Ale this Thursday, Feb. 20.

The ʻukulele collective Lōkahi is hosting its Hoʻolōkahi Lyrics Writing Challenge, a statewide songwriting competition for students, now through March 15. This year’s challenge brings together the talents of two of Hawaiʻi’s most respected singers, who are collaborating to inspire students across the islands.

Lahaina Restoration Foundation’s Hawaiian Music Series of February will feature a performance by local musician Joshua Kahula, with an evening of soulful island music under the stars. The Nisei Veterans Memorial Center will host a screening of “Of Civil Wrongs and Rights: The Fred Korematsu Story” on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025.

In response to public interest, the Lahaina Restoration Foundation will continue to screen E Hoʻi Ka Nani I Mokuʻula (Let the Glory Return to Mokuʻula) monthly at The Sphere at Maui Ocean Center in Wailuku throughout 2025. The next monthly screening of the film will take place on Feb. 14 at 6 p.m.

A new mural on the Kūihelani Highway sound wall in Puʻunēnē was created by two Maui artists in collaboration with the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation, Highways Maui District. Titled “Moʻolelo O Maui,” the 60’ wide x 9’ high artwork depicts the beloved story of Maui the demigod harnessing the sun.

Maui resident Kalani Pe‘a won his fourth Grammy for his latest album “Kuini,” in the Best Regional Roots Music Album category. The win is his fourth to date after previous wins in 2017 for his debut album “E Walea,” 2019 for his sophomore album “No ʻAneʻi,” and 2022 for his junior album “Kau Ka Peʻa.”
