One of Maui’s top up and coming pro surfers, 17-year-old Cody Young, is hosting a surf day for children with special needs. Maui Now caught up with the King Kekaulike High School senior to learn more about the event.

Hawaiian Paddle Sports and Street Bikers United will host the first Annual Paddle For Keiki event at the Kīhei Canoe Club on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016.

ʻOhana Health Plan is sponsoring a Maui Middle School volleyball tournament on Saturday, Dec. 10 at the Lahaina Civic Center. The event is expected to draw the participation of more than 250 players representing all eight middle schools in the Maui district.

North Carolina cruised to a fourth Maui Jim Maui Invitational title after defeating Wisconsin 71-56. Joel Berry II, named Tournament Most Valuable Player, scored 22 points. Kennedy Meeks had 15 points and a career-high 16 rebounds before he was named to the All-Tournament team.

Wisconsin will take on North Carolina in the Championship game today on ESPN2 4:30 p.m. HST (9:30 p.m. ET).

Georgetown will face Wisconsin today at 3 p.m. HST in the first Tournament semifinal on ESPN 2. Oklahoma State will play North Carolina at 5:30 p.m. HST

Georgetown defeated Oregon 65-61 in Game 2 of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational basketball tournament, taking place today Nov. 21 through Wednesday, Nov. 23 at the Lahaina Civic Center.

In Game 1, Wisconsin defeated Tennessee 74-62 in the opening game before a crowd of 2,400. Wisconsin coach Greg Gard said, “As always trying to get the first game is always the one you want to get under your belt.”

The Lahainaluna High School used a balanced attack on offense, defense and special teams Friday to claim the school’s first state Division II football championship since the small-school tournament was organized 14 years ago.
