The Maui Bus is seeking input from the public before proposing a new fee structure to the Maui County Council for the 2022 budget discussions.

A Waiehu man was arrested on Sunday for an alleged stabbing incident involving his neighbor.  

Five Maui women who were positioned in a trench at a West Maui construction site, in protection of ancestral burials on Tuesday, were placed under citizen’s arrest for allegations involving second degree criminal trespass.

Maui police are requesting the public’s help with a missing person case involving a 44-year-old man from Kīhei Maui who was reported missing on Tuesday, Oct. 13.

An anonymous donor is providing more than $1 million in funding to the Nā Ala Hele Trails and Access Program on Maui. Most of the funding will support planning, design, and construction of hiking trails in the recently acquired Kamehamenui Forest in upcountry Maui.  

The new document extends the mandatory 14-day quarantine for all incoming travelers; however, beginning Oct. 15, a pre-travel testing option will allow travelers an alternative to the mandatory 14-day quarantine.

There were 62 new COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i today, including 30 on the island of O‘ahu, 21 on Hawai‘i Island and 11 in Maui County. Kaua‘i reported no new cases today. Earlier today, Maui Mayor Michael Victorino said the 11 cases from today’s count are actually two months old and were recently confirmed as linked to the surge at the Roselani Place assisted living facility in Kahului from August. Hawai‘i’s COVID-19 death toll increased to 173, with three new deaths on O‘ahu and one on Maui, reported since yesterday.

Siren testing will be conducted on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 15 and 16, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at: Māʻalaea, Puaʻa Subdivision in Puʻunēnē, Kualano Subdivision in Pukalani, Wailua Valley in Haʻikū, Hāmoa Beach in East Maui and Puamana in Lahaina.

Hawaiʻi will receive more than $1.5 million in funding from the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund to support the City and County of Honolulu and the Hawaiʻi Department of Land and Natural Resources with improvements to parks on Oʻahu, Kauaʻi and Maui.

First Hawaiian Bank announced today that it will reopen on Oct. 19 four more branches – two branches on Hawaiʻi Island and one each on Maui and Kauaʻi – that were temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Maui Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be held Saturday, Oct. 17, 2020, with Scott Corderman as Event Chair and First Lady Dawn Amano-Ige as Honorary State Walk Chair. Due to COVID-19, a large in-person gathering will not take place this year and instead participants will walk as individuals or in small groups on sidewalks, beaches, tracks and hiking trails across Maui.

US Representative Tulsi Gabbard (HI-02) will begin four weeks of Army Reserve duty today (Tuesday, Oct. 13), where she will undergo training as a Civil Affairs Officer.

Mary Kielty was named Deputy Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation. She is a 27-year veteran of the Parks Department and succeeds John Buck, who recently retired.

Governor David Ige has verbally approved Maui Mayor Michael Victorino’s request to allow Maui County residents to travel solely between Maui, Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi without having to quarantine for 14 days or take a pre-travel test.

There were 42 new COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i today, including 37 on the island of O‘ahu, and 5 on Hawai‘i Island. Kaua‘i and Maui reported no new cases today.

“It might be a David vs Goliath case, but someone has to take a stand and oil companies need to pay for the damage they knowingly caused,” Mayor Victorino said. “Our ‘rock’ is science, which clearly shows the impacts of burning fossil fuels have led to sea level rise and other environmental impacts that will get worse, perhaps much worse, in the years ahead.”
