Day 4: Search For Missing Mariner Suspended Off Lānaʻi
On its third day, the Maui Fire Department is continuing its search for a Molokaʻi fisherman missing since Thursday morning off the northwest coast of Lānaʻi.
Cause of Waiʻale Brush Fire Under Investigation
The fire was reported at around 1:45 p.m. and burned an estimated 50 by 100 foot area of brush on the mauka side of Waiʻale Road, just south of Kuikahi Drive before being extinguished at 3 p.m., authorities said.

Maui Fire Chief Jeffrey Murray today announced the promotions of two firefighters to the rank of captain and one member to the post of fire services officer. Those promoted include: Edward Taomoto to the rank of Fire Services Officer, Patrick Shipman to Captain; and Brad Ventura to Captain.

Hawaiʻi Legislature Approves Raising Tobacco, E-Cig Purchase Age to 21
The bill, if signed into law, would make Hawaiʻi the first state in the nation to prohibit the sale of all tobacco products, including e-cigarettes, to individuals under the age of 21, according to the Coalition for a Tobacco Free Hawaiʻi.

The US Coast Guard rescued one man and is still searching for another after a 34-foot fishing vessel the “Munchkin” ran aground on the rocks about a half mile west of Lānaʻi early this morning.
