The Hawaiʻi State Legislature appropriated over $78 million in funding to projects and initiatives that were prioritized by the Legislative Native Hawaiian Affairs Caucus. The funding was appropriated after the legislative session that adjourned on April 29.

AAA Hawaiʻi: State Gas Prices March Higher
The average gas price for each region of the state increased over the past week, according to the AAA Hawaiʻi Weekend Gas Watch. On Thursday, May 6, the statewide average price for regular unleaded is $3.82 a gallon, which is up three cents from last Thursday, 11 cents higher than a month ago and 63 cents higher than the average last year on the same date.

The percentage of burglary cases decreased 50 percent from the week before when six incidents were also reported. Vehicle thefts increased 200 percent from the week before when three incidents were reported. Vehicle break-ins decreased 40 percent from the week before when five incidents were reported.
Kaua‘i’s Moves to More Cautious Tier 3 with Updated Guidelines
The more cautious tier was activated after the Kaua‘i’s average case count remained elevated for the past two weeks. This is the first time Kaua‘i has moved tiers since the guidelines were approved in October 2020.

The state Department of Health reports that there were 128 additional COVID-19 cases reported in Hawai‘i on Thursday, including 99 on O‘ahu, 10 on Maui, 10 on Hawai‘i Island, four on Kaua‘i, and five in Hawai‘i residents diagnosed while out of state. There were a total of 1,218 cases logged over the past two weeks, 174 of them in Maui County.
