Movement of Coffee Restricted from Maui and Hawai‘i Island Due to Coffee Leaf Rust
The state is restricting the movement of coffee from Maui and Hawaiʻi Island after infestations of coffee leaf rust were discovered on both islands. An interim rule, established by the Hawaiʻi Department of Agriculture, Plant Quarantine Branch went into effect on Friday, Nov. 20, 2020.
Coffee Leaf Rust Pest Tentatively Found on Maui in Ha‘ikū
The coffee leaf rust pest was tentatively identified on coffee plant samples collected on Maui. The Hawaiʻi Department of Agriculture received preliminary results from University of Hawaiʻi, College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources identifying the fungus on plants collected from managed and wild coffee in the Haʻikū area.
