While Maui County braces for more severe weather, council members are poised to take action Friday morning on a $15 million request for emergency funding, following a Wednesday committee update on the effort to rebuild from the August 2023 Lahaina wildfire disaster.

In response to the devastating Maui wildfires in 2023, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa School of Architecture students are learning to digitally restore individual buildings in Lahaina using cutting-edge technologies such as virtual 3D modeling and artificial intelligence (AI).  Some of the buildings students have been designing in mixed reality include Wo Hing Society Hall, Masters Reading Room, Baldwin House and Old Lahaina Courthouse.

“I’m really pleased. From the first photographs I saw it looked like everything was gone and that’s not the case. There are important historic buildings here that I think can be repaired,” said State Historic Preservation Division Administrator Dr. Alan Downer.

This months popular Hawaiian Music Series will be held on Thursday, May 25 at 6 p.m. on the Baldwin Home Museum lawn and will feature local musician and singer Mikey Mina.

The Baldwin Estate is not just the most expensive luxury property on Maui (price upon request), it is a notable wonder that’s rich in Hawaiian colonial architectural elements. Occupied by the Baldwin family since the mid-1800’s, this historic Maui property visually exposes the missionary past of Old Hawaii.
