#beyond pesticides

The Rotary Club of Kīhei-Wailea will hear from Maui Hub’s general manager Brandi Sagon, and Autumn Ness, director of the Hawaiʻi Organic Land Management Program of Beyond Pesticides. The two will share information about Maui Hub and the importance of supporting local farmers, the economy and community.

The Maui County Council voted unanimously this week to pass Bill No. 72, which allows only pesticides and fertilizers that are compatible with organic systems and permitted under the USDA National Organic Program to be used on County property.

In a community-based response to a global crisis, a years-long dream was realized in just three weeks, with the launch of the Maui Food Hub, under the direction of the Hawai’i Farmers Union United, and in collaboration with farmers and non-profit organizations across Maui. 

Environmental non-profit organization Beyond Pesticides is working with government agencies statewide to promote organic landscaping without pesticides and fertilizers.

Beyond Pesticides launches their Hawaiʻi-wide Organic Land Management Education Tour with its first stop on Maui on Monday, Feb 17.

The pilot will take place near Mile 4-5 of Honoapiʻilani Hwy until May 30th, and will be conducted with the support of Mike Atherton of the Tropical Plantation.
