Gov. Josh Green issued an Emergency Proclamation to protect public access to COVID-19 vaccines in Hawaiʻi following recent decisions by the federal government affecting vaccine availability.  

The Hawaiʻi State Department of Health reported 1,777 new COVID-19 cases for the week of Aug. 15-31, 2022, which is 442 less cases than the previous week. Hawai‘i’s COVID-19 deaths increased to 1,644, with 12 new deaths reported over the week.

State health officials today say that while they are seeing a decline in COVID-19 cases, they are seeing notable deaths, which is a lagging indicator from the latest omicron surge. The department is also monitoring the BA.4 and BA.5 variants and reviewing recommendations for the upcoming school year.

The state Department of Health is reporting a COVID-19 count of 4,249 new cases over the past week, and 10 new deaths.

Hawai‘i residents ages 16 and 17 may receive a booster dose if it has been at least six months since the completion of the initial series of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

There were 80 additional COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i on Tuesday, including 14 on Maui.

There were 127 additional COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i on Wednesday, including 11 on Maui. Hawai‘i’s COVID-19 deaths increased to 851, with six new deaths reported today. 

There were 168 additional COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i on Wednesday. The latest data represents a total of 3,883 “active” cases over two weeks. Maui County’s seven day average of cases peaked at 57.6 per 100,000 on Aug. 25, and has been on a steady decline since the beginning of September, dropping to 12.6 per 100,000 today.

While all state employees have the option to vaccinate or undergo testing, the report also indicates that 87 people (.6%) have applied for an exemption from the vaccination or testing requirement and 11 (.08%) were placed on leave without pay because they did not return their attestation.

Of today’s 539 cases, there were 529 cases identified as confirmed, and 10 probable cases were added to the count. The confirmed cases included: 368 on O‘ahu (+8 probable); 81 on Hawai‘i Island (-1 probable); 49 on Maui; 14 on Kaua‘i; Molokaʻi (+3 probable); and 17 in Hawai‘i residents diagnosed while out of state.
