Record donation of $3.5M made to UH Mānoa music department
A record $3.5-million gift to the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa from the Barbara Barnard Smith Foundation will fund the music department’s first-ever endowed chair. The newly established Professor Barbara Barnard Smith Endowed Chair supports the university’s desire and commitment to revitalize its ethnomusicology program and honors the legacy of the late revered UH Mānoa professor who died in 2021.
Lahaina: Waves of Change featured at Movies at The Old Prison
Lahaina: Waves of Change, a documentary dedicated to Lahaina and recounted through the eyes of Hawaiian musician Eddie Kamae, will be screened at this month’s “Movies at the Old Prison.” The free event will be held on Saturday, April 29 at 7 p.m.
Those Who Came Before: Kamae Documentary Airs July 28
The film tells the story of Eddie’s quest to find the sources of Hawaiian musical traditions in order to preserve and pass along the knowledge to future generations.
