Wailuku man named 2024 Richard Hoʻopiʻi Leo Kiʻekiʻe Falsetto Champion

Maui’s own Antonio Robles of Wailuku, earned the championship title at the 22nd annual Richard Ho‘opi‘i Leo Kiʻekiʻe Falsetto Contest, held at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua on Saturday night, Sept. 21, 2024. He was honored for his performance of Hawaiʻi standard “Waikaloa.” The competition featured six contestants–four from Maui, and two from O’ahu.

‘ʻUkulele for Lahaina’ project kicks off with Kula ʻUkulele Festival, June 22

The “ʻUkulele for Lahaina” Project announces the inaugural Kula ʻUkulele Festival, a special event as part of the Maui Jazz & Blues Festival series dedicated to providing ʻukulele to families who lost their instruments in the August 2023 Lahaina wildfire. The event will feature some of Hawaii’s top ʻukulele masters and will take place on June 22 from 3 to 7:30 p.m. at the Ocean Organic Farm and Distillery on the slopes of Haleakalā.

Liam Moleta of Oʻahu wins 21st Richard Hoʻopiʻi Leo Kiʻekiʻe Falsetto contest on Maui

Liam Moleta of Oʻahu earned this year’s title for his performance of “Aloha Nō Kahului.” Also competing were Tevita Lisiate Apina-Pacheco from Waiʻanae, O‘ahu, Antonio Robles of Wailuku, Maui, and Via Tiumalu Jr from Kīhei, Maui.

20th Richard Hoʻopiʻi Leo Kiʻekiʻe Falsetto Contest issues call for entries

The 20th annual Richard Ho‘opi‘i Leo Kiʻekiʻe Falsetto Contest is seeking contestants. The contest will be held at the Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022 at 6 p.m.

Kamaehu Kawa‘a earned the championship title at the 19th annual Richard Hoʻopiʻi Leo Kiʻekiʻe Falsetto Contest, held Saturday, Sept. 18 at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua. The competition featured five contestants showcasing their high-register voices in the unique style of falsetto.
