Kaibigan ng Lahaina hosts the first round of food distribution through its Padigo Project

Kaibigan ng Lahaina, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the recovery and resilience of Filipino and immigrant communities impacted by the Aug. 8, 2023 wildfires, launched their Padigo Project with their first food distribution event held on June 13, 2025.

Hawai’i Community Foundation awarded Kaibigan ng Lahaina with a $1.6 million grant from the Maui Strong Fund, according to organization board president, Nestor Ugale.

The Hawaiʻi Workers Center, a grassroots organization focused on the well-being of workers held a press conference in Lahaina last week in the hopes of tackling housing issues impacting wildfire survivors.

Binhi at Ani launches Tulong for Lahaina Fund

“Tulong means help in the Tagalog and Ilokano languages,” said organization President Melen Agcolicol, who will lead the coordination.  “And Binhi at Ani wanted to create a fund to help our kababayans, our fellow Filipinos, which comprise at least 40% of Lahaina town.”
